“…Upon complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the parish of Rothwell in the said parts of Lindsey …Rebecca the wife of John Corden a private in the third regiment of Footguards and Sarah their daughter aged six years, William their son aged four years and John their son aged 14weeks have come to inhabit the parish of Rothwell the said John Corden not having gained legal settlement there and that the said Rebecca and children are now chargeable to the parish of Rothwell … The Church wardens and Overseers of the Poor requested to convey Rebecca and children from Rothwell to Louth to deliver them to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor there. The Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of Louth requested to provide for them…”
and on the back: “Jno Corden a absent inhabt[?] abt l8[28?] yrs of age left the parish abt 14yrs ago [?] by which able to gain settlement by hire to Henry ?gham for a year. By his ? ? he hired himself for a year abt a year ago to ? Brocklesby of Rillingholme and served him ....[.two whole sentences illegible]”
